John Dennis 'Jack' Spratt, a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, and proud patriot, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Illinois. Jack was 86 years old. Born in Vandalia, Illinois, to Verne Edison Spratt and Lucille Gertrude Mahon, he grew up in Bond County, where he built a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
He graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1956 and attended Greenville College for a couple of years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1960. During his naval service, Jack served honorably during the Cuban Missile Crisis, embodying the steadfast courage and commitment that defined his life. After his discharge from the Navy, Jack returned to Greenville, where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Alton. Together, they raised three children and shared 53 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on December 10, 2017.
